Fluorescent to LED conversion (ballast removal)?
I’m looking for a licensed electrician to convert 7 4×2 basement fluorescent fixtures to LED. Does anyone know what the typical cost is for this job and contractor recommendations? Thanks!

You can visit HireRush website to see the prices which electricians offer and contact some of them if you’d like to make an estimation of your project, so then you could decide whether you need any external assistance or not. Here is a list of professional electricians: https://goo.gl/VzdfqY

My cellar has a number of recessed 4×2 fluorescent ceiling fixtures already installed. I’m looking for a general cost estimate to have an electrician do this before deciding how to proceed vs doing it myself.

Are you talking shop lights? If so why not just simple 4 foot (4 X 1) LED ones such as [LED Shop light example](http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-4-ft-LED-Linkable-White-Shop-Light-54103161/205331022) ? Seems a lot simpler and cheaper. And you can give away the older fixtures here or on FreeCycle.

I was at Ortov Electric today & the guy ahead of me was being talked through exactly that process – it didn’t seem to be very difficult.

While rewiring the lights will give you more (and cheaper) lamp options, there are LED tubes that are direct replacements for the fluorescent tubes. E.g.., http://www.homedepot.com/p/Feit-Electric-4-ft-T8-T12-17-Watt-Cool-White-Linear-LED-Light-Bulb-8-Pack-T48-841-LED-8/206060371 Otherwise, you need to bypass the ballasts and direct wire the end sockets (and might need to replace the ends). A pretty simple task for anyone, but probably pretty expensive for a licensed electrician compared to the alternatives.
