Estimate In Line?

Scope: Install 1 outside light, 2 recept., + 1 inside recep. and 2 inside switches for light & recep. On back wall of house, wired from existing inside box. Got quote over 1300 (from recc. via here)…is this reasonable? I was figuring much less, it’s a day’s work. Also, they want to run wire in inside wall but then I have additional cost of patching 10-12 holes and repaint. Isn’t outside conduit better (nd cheaper)? I assume then there’d be only 3 penetrations which lead to boxes so patching would be minimal.

if you want to take a moment to consider how something like this can cost so much, consider this:  i was talking to a roofer about the cost of insurance.  this man ran two crews of three people each.  his liability and workman’s compensation insurance ran $98,000 per year.  I would be very suprised if the electrician’s insurance was not in that ballpark.    if you leave NYC the cost of insurance drops in half.  if you leave the northeast it drops to about 1/3.  this is one reason it costs so much to get work done in NY.  Add in medical insurance and benefits for the employees …..    Steve

$64? You could string an extension cord for much less! Seriously, asuming that estimate is from a licenced electrician, it seems ti be the right order of magnitude.

You are right. This is complete rip off. Day work is $8.00 per hr x 8 hours= $64.00\. Materials you can buy at Home Depot.
