Complete Electrical Upgrade DOB Paperwork

I was wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what is required to be filed over at the DOB in order to do a complete upgrade of the electrics (switches, outlets, lights, breaker boxes, sub boxes, etc– both 120 and 240 circuits) within a 3 floor brownstone?   Does the DOB require any sort of architectural PLAN (a drawing) which shows the placement of switches, outlets, lights, etc?   Or– does the Licensed electrician only need to indicate (on filing form) how many circuits per floor, what type of circuit, etc, on some sort of WRITTEN itemization WITHOUT an actual drawing which shows the LOCATION of outlets, etc?

Drawings are not needed for electrical filing but I would recommend them for your own use. Outlets and switches are relatively straight forward to place but drawings would be very useful in designing a lighting layout. Also having the drawings along with schedules and specifications will help in making sure the work gets done as it was agreed upon.

Drawings are not needed. Your licensed electrican can handle the entire filing with the DOB. http://brownstoner.staging.wpengine.com/curated

Your licensed electrician should take care of this. I don’t believe drawings are necessary – we had our house redone entirely (including new service from Con Ed) and I don’t think drawings were ever made – probably just specifications (amps, circuits, outlets per room, etc.)

I think you need electrical drawings.  You can call the electrical and ask them.http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/development/electrical_permit_and_insp.shtml
