stairs and under stoop repair
Are they leaking? Any painting is likely to be futile until the leaks are fixed. But if leaking is not an issue, you can re-do the top of the stairs only and not affect under the steps.

Hi, I am in a south slope frame house. My facade and stairs are hideous, and I’d like to redo them when I can. But my more immediate problem is that under the stairs is peeling old paint and generally a mess. My question is this: am I likely to need to pull down the stairs altogether if I am replacing form stone with something nicer, and it would be a waste to scrape/re-paint under the stairs now? Or would I be dealing with facade of the steps only, and therefore cleaning up under the stairs would not be a waste? We keep bikes etc under the steps that we use daily, so it is pressing, but I don’t want to put the time/money in to a project if it will be obsolete in the next year or so . . Thanks for your thoughts!
