Recommendation for masonry work

As a new-ish homeowner, landlord, and Brownstoner visitor, I have learned so much and been able to receive and offer critical advice and recommendations, free from personal gain. I thought that is what the forum was all about. And there is a difference, as stated above, between recommending and advertising. I hope Blankslate reconsiders. Otherwise, I don’t doubt some other thoughtful blogger will fill that void.

Hi – we are looking for someone low-cost to do some updates to the retaining wall and patio in our backyard, eg some demolition, replacing existing patio and resurfacing the retaining wall. I’ve gotten a few estimates that seem really high and am just looking for someone who can do a competent but basic job. Any recommendations welcome. Thanks!

yeah, this is a new, terrible policy. isn’t the point of brownstoner that it is a community where people share their experiences and references? i’ve seen lots and lots of people post phone numbers and emails for workmen they are recommending. john o’connor doesn’t advertise–not on brownstoner, not anywhere. and i am not “advertising” for him. i am *recommending* him. that difference should be clear. and he’s exactly the kind of independent craftsman that ‘the brooklyn community’ should be supporting. brownstoner is becoming an ad agency.
