How to restore driveway cracks?

You can buy asphalt sealer at most DIY stores. The cracks, depending upon size, could be filled either with an asphalt patch for the wider deeper ones or a very viscous product like Steve describes above. Cracks are running cross my driveway. Can anyone recommend me how to overcome this issue? Should I resurface it or go with the option of complete redesigning? Also, please recommend the options regarding the same.

we are fighting this here on our common driveway. and if you do not resolve the cracks, water will get under the asphalt this winter and freeze and make a lot more trouble. I am not sure of the best product to use. I do know that there is a water based paint like product used to provide minimal protection before the cracks develop; we used to do our driveway with it every year. but once they develop the matter is a little more severe. there is a rubber like liquid that can be put on the cracks which can seal them – and I saw a neighbor do it here only a few months ago, but he had to heat the rubber with a torch until it was liquid. I am not certain that is the only route. There may be something you brush on. also, and when you google this to research it, if the crack are many and close, I would refer to the problem as “alligatoring”. so google “how to repair alligatoring on asphalt driveway”. you will find your answer. if you have every seen black lines on the road – not so much here in the city but in the burbs, those are repairs done to cracks. they pour the rubberized product on and it seals them.
