How to build a Driveway with long-lasting appeal?

One of the things to think about is how it will be shoveled or plowed when it snows. Flat asphalt is the best for that but aesthetically the most unappealing. Crushed stone is probably not feasible in the city and requires the most upkeep. There are all sorts of pavers from cobblestones to interlocking brick pavers. The latter do make a nice flat surface for plowing.

I am planning to design a driveway with long-lasting appeal. Can anyone suggest me what material should I incorporate to build the same. Also, how long the material for driveway will last? What kind of maintenance would be required to increase its life span?
