Metal Gates for Sliding Door for Garden Access
I recently had a sliding steel gate fabricated and installed to match an 8 feet sliding glass door. Seems like a perfect security solution. About $1800 from Payless Iron Works.

My first floor tenant has a sliding door for access into a deck and a garden. She is concerned that just a sliding glass door is not secure enough and is asking if it is possible to install some metal gates. I am not sure how thats possible. Would I need to get it custom ordered? Any ideas? Thank you.

I would get a less uptight tenant. In the meantime you could cut a dowel to fit in the track to block the sliding door from opening.

We put a baseball bat in the bottom track at the sliding door at our other place. That plus ADT stickers because there is an alarm system.

this is a really bad idea for liability purposes. Especially as a landlord. Even if you want to get some kind of custom steel door installed i would call your insurer first. Also, steel bars are just a deterrent. They can be broken into just as anything else can. Hovever, a thick sliding glass door with a charley bar is a darn good deterrent as well. I don’t believe they are easy to break into. Perhaps they were hoping to keep the door open at night? In which case i’d side with bklnite and get a new tenant. If you’re still that determined, you could call Vinnie’s Iron works on Bergen in CH. Its probabally going to cost a few thousand bucks though for a custom door that size.
