Entry Doors Slam

This seems to be an old thread – partially revived? If its an arched door, maybe replace one or more of the hinges with a “pressure hinge”. Pretty common and easy to install. Matt R www.nyc-hs.com

My entry doors slam like crazy.  Like most brownstones, I have 2 sets of entry doors on the parlor level.  One set has a square top and the other is arched.  Both have glass panels. Is it possible to install a door closer on the arched door?

I have door closers on both sets of doors and I had to set the inner door to slam in the winter. The colder air is heavier, creating a lot of resistance. Often when tenants rush out, the inner and outer doors are open at the same time, and cold air rushes in. If I set the inner door to a normal speed, it doesn’t latch — so I end up making it slam. We get a lot of noise and the virbration is damaging the door and vestibule walls. While after several requests, most of the tenants will slow the door down and make sure it is closed without slamming, but I cannot control delivery people. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution other than wait for Spring? Maybe a more powerful door closer, although mine is pretty hefty already. Thanks.
