Building Notice of Violation

I assume it’s the illegal apt in the cellar a few posts down. Was it an ECB or an HPD violation?

My family recently received a Building Notice of Violation and hearing. We are willing to fix the violation and restore it back to its legal condition. But here is my question: are we allow to fix the problem ourself, without hiring an professionals?

Depends on what the ‘violation’ is. For example,If it is about a fence higher than 6 feet all you need to do is cut the fence to 6 feet…take photos, ask dob to inspect, go to hearing, viola! Now if the violation is that you removed a load bearing wall…the you need a professional (PE) to certified to the structural integrity of the building, etc. What is the violation about?
