window treatment to ensure privacy but allow light in

So many options that will let light in while providing privacy. We used the Shade Store for our last apartment and had a mixture of solar shades, roller shades and linen sheers that let in varying amounts of light depending on the room. We plan on using them again in our new house when renovations are done.

Our bedroom is at the front of the house on the 2nd floor – sandwiched between our neighbor’s top-of-the-stoop entrance as well as our upstairs tenant’s top-of-the stoop entrance. When someone comes up either stoop, they can see very easily into our bedroom. What do people do to allow a light to come in but to ensure privacy during the day? Blinds cracked open? A sheer curtain always pulled closed, and a heavier one to pull close at night? We’ve always lived in apartment buildings where anonymity made us a bit, um, freer, but now that we’ll actually know our neighbors I’d rather streak around without them seeing.

Depending upon the height of the windows and the stoop, duo fold shades might make sense.

Or you might try the vertical Levolors – slant them to obstruct the view but let in light during the day & close them completely at night. I use sheers & close the wooden shutters at night.

Another suggestion: Frosted pvc window treatment on bottom. Or bottom to top honeycomb/ cellular shades.
