Cellar conversion possible?

Has anyone successfully converted a storage area of basement (with 2 windows) to a recreation room? We are on the parlor floor of a multiple unit coop. Is it feasible? What are the legal implications for the coop/city?

yes, I have had plans approved by DOB..basically has to be one big room. You can have a furnace room and 1 closet, toilet, sink. Shower is iffy http://nyc-dob.com

I’m only a homeowner and not an expert, but my understanding is generally that it is bedrooms and shower that are difficult to secure. rec rooms don’t gain a lot of attention. practically the biggest issue as a homeowner is water, excess moisture and mold. Can almost be guaranteed in old brooklyn houses unless a really good contractor is on the job who knows waterproofing and cares about doing a good job.
