I have done a couple jobs where sound is an issue quit rock is the way to go. I get the best result with it a swell as pliable puddy around electrical outlets

Hi Everyone – I am looking to beef up my wall between my neighbor that is approximately 20’Wx10’H. I’m planning on doing a double layer of gyp on his side, insulation, and resilient channels with gyp. Also – I would like to cut our subfloor so that I don’t feel the vibrations from his side. Does anyone have a general contractor that does really clean wall construction? Or is knowledgeable on acoustics that they can recommend? Thanks! Max

I recently met this contractor while working on a restaurant with sound design. Dan Prosseda of Sound Control. He told me he’s DEP certified. www.soundcontrolny.com

I used these guys for insulation & they did a great job, but they also do soundproofing so might be worth a call: http://www.brooklyninsulation.com/

Thanks for the tidbits – I will try and give Dan a call later today. I have called BK Insulation before and they are quite expensive for my budget. Perhaps general contractors that can perform the work under my instructions since I do have some background in acoustics? Thanks everyone!

Just had soundproofing installed in both ceiling and walls…am extremely happy with the results. Call Tony at 917-882-2864\.

didn’t see this thread before. double gyp and resilitent channel is good, but if this is a big issue i’d just go two layers of quietrock and use iso clips on the channel. sound is a “weakest link” type of theory, so its impossible to see what might be going through his ceiling and into your ceiling based on the construction. when you say you would like to cut your subfloor- what do you mean exactly? you want to remove your subfloor and put a layer of sheetblok etc and replace the subfloor and finished floor? One thing to keep in mind, if you are sharing the same joists in the floor, sound travels vibrationally through those so the method i mentioned is likely to have some positive impact, not confident what you are describing would be that effective. i realize you are probably thinking of a “break” in the vibration of the subfloor, but the joists also transmit. something to keep I’m mind. i think you’re on the right path.
