how to get help from the DOB?

@carmenf…I wanted some answers about deck code. I spent about an hour asking questions. They assign you an inspector…you don’t get to choose, and the chances that you get your examiner are somewhere between slim and none. @ccvle…Every borough has a homeowner’s night. Did you read the link that I posted? I asked questions relating to DoB code, not a specific case.

Can anyone that is familiar with the DOB tell me what is the best way to get help from the DOB? Is there a number that I can call or an unit within the DOB that I can go in person to ask for help? My expeditor/architect filed an amended filing about three weeks, but for some reasons, it still has not been approved by the DOB yet. This is the third or fourth filings that we submitted. All previous filings were approved within a day or two, so I’m not really sure why this one is taking so long. The status is “Last Action: APPLICATION PROCESSED – ENTIRE 02/10/2015 (D)” If I understand correctly, the status should be ” PLAN EXAM – APPROVED”. I asked about the expeditor about this and he’s not really sure why it is taking so long. I just want to see if there is someone at the DOB that can help answer my question. I remember going there in person (for a different problem) and the customer service was just terrible. Every person that I talked to at the DOB told me that it is not their problem, go speak with another department. I had similar experience when I tried to call their customer service.

Good luck. When you figure out the secret, let me know… we filed an Alt-1 before xmas and still haven’t received our objections, nevermind have our second review. We’ve called every government office with a phone number who is remotely related to this and the over-arching theme is that there is absolutely nothing we can do, we have to just sit and wait while our house sits unoccupied. Gotta love NYC!

The homeowner night looks like an interesting option, but do they offer job/case specific help? or do they just give you a number to call? or just refer to some other department?

Urban exteriors: what did you use this meeting to discuss? We have the name of our examiner but were explicitly told to NOT contact her under any circumstances by our expeditor and architect, although I’m becoming pretty desperate.
