Hi, I am not exactly sure what it is called but the hatch in front of our brownstone in our garden is leaking when it rains. The whole thing is so old and it needs to be totally replaced. We need to have our dryer vent attached to it as well. Does anyone know what type of company does this type of work? Do you have any recommendations. I have no idea how much this type of thing would cost to do??? Thanks for any advice

Is it metal? If so, you need an iron works company. You can use Vinnie’s Italian Art on Bergen, or you can try Gabriel on W 9th. It’s very hard to get iron work places to respond to you. You usually have to personally walk in.

Ricardo is also good. And I’ve seen them made of marine ply too.

Bilco is known for good hatches, but I think you’ll need a local contractor to install it.

Depending on your hatch cover, you might need a tinsmith and not an ironworker. If you live in a historic district, you’ll need to replicate the current hatch cover. Try Superior Tinsmith on 6th St. in PS, 718-499-0498.

Cropsey Iron Works has done work for us on our window guards. We called and set up an an appointment right away. Easy process, not cheap, but this is what they do and much of their work is on Brownstones,
