A few weeks ago one of our fireplaces fell off of the wall. It didn’t fall over, but the keystone did crash to the ground and there’s now about a 1″ gap between the mantle and the wall it used to touch. I’m looking for someone who can fix this. I don’t even know where to start, since I don’t know how it was attached to the wall in the first place. Plus, since the keystone weighs a ton, I don’t want it to fall off again someday on someone’s toe – I want someone who knows what he’s doing.

Manny LaSalle is the expert to call about old mantles. He removed an old wood mantle and installed a salvage slate mantle for us for $1,000\. It took about a day with a few helpers. He did a beautiful job. He covers everything and is very careful, but move your furniture out of the way and expect some dust in the immediate area. He is also a mason and chimney expert who trades in old mantles and has accessories such as summer covers for sale. M La Salle Fireplace & Chimney, Manny LaSalle 917-292-1825.
