Need a wooden counter cut down - any ideas of where to go / cost?
I bought a 8 foot long and 25 inch wide wooden countertop from IKEA (and 1.5″ thick). I need to cut it down so that the width is 20 inches instead of 25.
I have a circular saw but can’t say that I truly trust my skills to make a super clean and accurate cut and I really want it to be exact- I’d feel much more comfortable if someone could run it through a big table saw.
Any idea who might be able to help me out on this one? I’m located in the Gowanus/PS area and I can easily bring the counter to someone by car so I really just need someone to make this one cut.
Any shops out there that might do this? Any idea of cost? Seems like a pretty simple job so I would hope it would be like $25 or something.
All suggestions welcome.

I feel your pain! We cut our own beech Numerar countertop and for circular saw newbies, it was neither quick nor easy. But we did it. Good luck.

I’ll do it for free, but am located in Middle Village. You would have to be able to bring it here when I am working. If you wish to contact me, feel free to get my number off my website and give me a call. Steve http://brownstoner.staging.wpengine.com/tinkerswagon

Rip fence on hand held skill saw would do this fine or what DIBS says. We do both all the time –

You can do this yourself if you already have the saw. Get two clamps and clamp a straigtedge piece of lumber square with the corners and use that as the stop to run your saw firmly against it to make the cut. make sure you have a sharp dine cutting blade so as not to “rip” the surface of the counter.
Make a trial cut first to determine the sharpness of the blade and to be sure there’s no “tear out” on the top surface.

If you can wait a few weeks, I will have my large table saw set up at a job on Columbia St after Sept 1\. Right now it’s broken down into pieces (cast iron top)

You might want to give Dykes Lumber a call and see if they will do it. They are on 6th St btwn 2nd and 3rd Ave.
