Revocable consent needed to reconfigure stoop area?
It sounds to me like you would not, as long as you can prove that the stoop was original to the building. However, I’d try to contact the DOT and speak with them about it. We’re doing a revocable consent for a new stoop and have found them very responsive and willing to field questions. You can probably start with a phone call and follow up with photos of the existing and proposed (neighbor) conditions.

Hello – My house is in on a landmark block and we are looking to reconfigure our stoop to make the entrance to the garden level more accessible. Currently one needs to go up two steps from the sidewalk onto a fenced-in concrete front yard and then go back down those two steps to enter the garden level. Other houses on my block have dug down the concrete front yard to eliminate this issue and have turned the main steps to allow access to the parlor from the dug-down level. Assuming that we can get LPC approval to make this change. Do we also need to get a revocable consent from the DOT? About 2 feet of the concrete front yard are outside the property lot line — although the entire front yard is fenced in. The new configuration would not encroach any more or less on the sidewalk that the current configuration and would remain in line with the entire block. Has anybody had a similar issue?
