Question regarding "change of egress" and new C of O???

I am purchasing a single-family zoned R5 – the front entry door sits between two windows (one on either side).  We are considering moving the entry door, so that one of the windows becomes the entry, and the old entry would become a window.  Does anybody know if that is a change of egress that would necessitate a new C of O?  And/or whether that makes it an ALT-1 filing?

Are you saying that there is already an opening that you are converting to a door?  As long as the egress is from the same room or hallway and there is no change to the use or occupancy, this should not be a change of egress and can be an ALT Type 2\.  There may be other factors that affect what typ of application it will be but based on the information you’ve provided, there should be no change to the C of O.  Jim’s advise regarding the pre-consideration is good.  Just be aware that it could be a lengthy process.

That’s a good question.  Technically, the DOB requires an Alt 1 (new C of O) filing if you change use, occupancy, or egress.  You would be changing egress, however, you’re a single family, so you can argue that the change is minimal, assuming you’ll be existing from the same front room as before.  Even if not from the same room, I would begin the process by filing a predetermination application which would explain the situation and ask the question.  The ruling from the predetermination would then overrule the objection should the plan examiner raise it, and would give you a clear answer under which to proceed.
