Permitted to store things in boiler room?

We have a pretty big self-enclosed room for the boiler and hot water heaters. I store metal pipes, spare fixtures, and stuff in there. In order to clear a real old HPD violation, a HPD guy is coming by to check to make sure I have now posted correct signs on the boiler room door. Is there any specific rule about if anything can be stored in a boiler room?  I just don’t want to add another violation when he comes by.
