Exact Shade of Red Paint for Sprinkler Pipes?

We need to paint our exposed sprinkler pipes in the public halls red (lovely…). I tried getting an answer from NYFD but they weren’t helpful. Is there a specific shade of red that is required for the paint job? We don’t want to paint them “red” only to have the reinspection fail because the red is not the right shade or glossiness or who knows what. Also since it is now illegal (as far as I know) to use oil-based paints indoors, we can’t just go with a Rustoleum Safety Red. Thanks.

Is this a joke? Red.  Not dark red, not brick red. Not ralph lauren “touch of red”, not flourescent red.  red. Compare the color to a red sharpie marker, and then proceed accordingly.  The inspector isn’t carrying a pantone chart.

i dont believe they ever specified a specific color. I know the green of our handles……isnt the green in the brochure we received and they couldn’t have cared less when they did the inspection (btw can beleive you havent had this done already….)

I can’t remember the brand or exact color, but Leopoldi’s on Fifth Ave. in PS has the paint you want. We passed our inspection with no problem. (Hard to believe you got failed on color, rather than something else).

It is not illegal to use oil based paint. Absurd. Lead paint, yes. You will need to use oil based paint when painting any metal, such as a tin ceiling or pipes. Some will say you can use oil based primer on a tin ceiling and latex on top, but it has been my experience that it causes rust. We used oil based paint on our tin ceiling and it’s looking good. Use a respirator and open all the windows and doors. You could also use a fan. You will want to do this when it’s warm enough. Obviously it’s better to use latex on all the other surfaces, such as walls and trim.

i think oil cannot be used by employees, but you can apply oil yourself (indoors).
