Do we need a C of O for landmarked building?

We live in a landmarked Brownstone in Prospect Lefferts. Out of curiosity I searched the Dept of Building site and it says there is no C of O for the building (nor for my neighbors, by the way). We bought the house over 15 years ago. Will we need a C of O for the future to sell the house?

Older houses before CofO had I-cards.  You have to go to HPD to get a copy.

You won’t need one to sell, but you may need one if you plan to do any renovations on the house (as will the buyer).  We purchased a house without a C of O and it was a lengthy, somewhat painful process to get the necessary paperwork to renovate.  We’ll end up with a proper C of O at the end of it, but if the sellers had been able to get a letter of no objection, or had gotten the C of O before selling, would have been tons easier.

Right; most buildings built prior to 1938 don’t have C of Os.

No.  Many old houses don’t have c of o’s.
