SANBORN MAPS (obtained by private homeowners)
PLEASE –NO ANSWERS FROM PROFESSIONALS SEEKING PROJECTS– THANK YOU Has any private homeowner been to 209 Joralemon St for the purpose of obtaining a Sanborn Map of their property for a DOB project? Just trying to get a feel for what I am up against (time, cost, aggravation, etc). I am looking for a non-professional person -like myself- that has been through the process just to give me an idea of what I am facing. If anybody has tackled this undertaking in this fashion, please share your insights and again thank you. 8:37 AM 03/16/2012 | 0 VOTES

I am an architect but have been there for personal reasons to look at the December 15, 1961 tax maps. I got there right when it opened and was there about 10 minutes. Guy there took me right where I needed to go and showed me what I was looking for. What do you need it for? If it’s just for metes and bounds, all that is online at the cities digital tax map here: http://gis.nyc.gov/dof/dtm/mapviewer.jsf

I am a professional, but I’m not interested in getting paid to go get sanborns. The easiest way is to contact EDR (edrnet.com) and ask them for a sanborn package. You can get a certified copy of 10-15 of them in dates ranging from 1888 to present, emailed to you in usually less than a day or two, for less than $150\. It will take about 5 minutes to order them and you’ll have perfect legal copies. It will take hours doing it yourself and the results won’t be nearly as usable. Ask yourself what is your time worth.
