Removing Electric and Gas Meters/ C of O change
We waited until the the plumbing and electric were signed off on, then just called up both companies to pick up their meters. It was a very simple process and both companies came out quickly and picked up their meters.

I’m nearing the end of a renovation that is changing my house from a 3 family to a 1 family. As a 3-family, the building had 3 gas meters (National Grid) and 4 electric meters (Con Ed).
Does anyone know the process for having Con Ed/National Grid pick up the now unneeded meters and close the accounts? (The meters are now unhooked and sitting in the basement and the accounts are still open.) Do I wait until we pass our final inspection with the DOB or can I do this now? We’ve passed our plumbing rough-in.

We have a 2 family used as a 1\. I called Con-Ed to remove the meter we weren’t using and they just sent someone out to remove it and that took all of 3 minutes, no cost or paperwork. The previous owner had already had the extra electric meter removed so I don’t know if that process is any different.
