Rec to install kitehen and bathroom exhaust fans (includig ductwork)

Kitchen is centre location of landmark brownstone – duct would need to run through two walls across bedroom ceiling to rear of house. Bathroom is similar location but closer to rear – duct would still need to go though two walls and across ceiling of a small room

Yes, S.  what you need is a small HVAC company.  The problem here is multifold: they are very busy right now and many of these companies work on contract with big buildings so those buildings get preference.  

Would anybody know of a small HVAC firm willing to take this?  or would be best approach be to get a tin knocker to run the duct and get an electrician to install the fans?

Actually HVAC firms usually don’t touch these small items.  My mechanical contractor is a two-person outfit and he does not touch these small jobs.  I have my electricians wire them and my crew runs the ducts.  This may be why it is so hard for the OP to find just one person or firm, since these units are usually involved in the scope of larger jobs.  And then you need carpenters, plasters and roofers, etc. for patching.

It would help if we had a description of the proposed duct run.
