Hi Guys,What might the budget range be to add a 3rd floor addition on 14′ x 30′ building?The wife and I are considering purchasing a small townhouse in Park Slope area and could use some help with this rough budget.  The addition would be a simple open space, with a small bathroom, the existing building is approx 14 x 30 ft on a small lot-best option looks to be UP, not out!We are assuming FAR has not been exceeded and structurally everything is sound.Thanks!Chris

I’m doing somthing similar as well in Park Slope. I’ve been quoted a price of $250-$300 square feet. What construction company are you thinking company where you thinking of using?

I think you really should consider talking to an architect first and establishing a good idea of what you want to do and what construction methods will be required.  It’s premature for anyone to guess at price ranges without knowing this or seeing the existing conditions first hand.  There is a lot that goes into a vertical addition – it’s quite a bit more complex than popping out the back of a townhouse (and more costly as things such as interior protection need to be throughly considered up front).I would be happy to review the project with you if you are interested.

You need an architect first.  You must make sure you have the FAR to do this.
