Hi there, We’re about to embark on some major renovations of our 2-family, brick semi-detatched townhouse in Windsor Terrace. The first of which is an oil to gas conversion and upgrade of our ancient steam boiler/hot water coil. Our proposal says that we must install fire rated tin to the ceiling above the boiler approximately in a 10′ radius. Has anyone else done this? The job is filed with DOB. Photos attached…any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Be careful with that oil tank removal. I’m always leary of plumbers removing oil tanks considering they’re supposed to only be removed by a company that is DEP certified to handle and discard the oil. I sub mine out to a certified and insured company to comply with the law and limit your and my liability. That said, the work on your ceiling is required and can either be done with sheet metal or two layers of ?”(?) sheetrock.

as MP said it an be tin or 2 layers of 5/8 sheetrock. Both comply to fire rating, just depends on with what your contractor is comfortable. As far as oil tank removal, I always use Steve at All Boro tank removal… incredibly clean and professional
