Takes a While to Get Hot Water out Faucets on 3rd Floor

Plumbers installing a on demand heating system on a 3 story? (deva) And then if they install a tank system with recirculation they ‘forget’ the $20 pipe insulation? (NeoGrec) It’s normal 🙂

I have a new heating system installed and it control the whole house. I have a three family house. My tenants are now experiencing issues with hot water whereby it takes a while for the hot water to kick-in. Anything can be done about this without any dramatic plumbing changes? I have high efficiency boiler. Thank you.

What is making your hot water? Instantaneous hot water heater, gas fired tank hot water heater or indirect hot water heater? More info needed in order to help you solve the problem.

If it’s not a recirculating system there’s not much you can do. It takes my hot water one & a half gallons to get to the 3rd floor.

If OP has an instantaneous HWH a recirculating line isn’t going to do balls all unless a lower floor calls for hot water. However if they have one of the other types I originally asked about then a recirculating line and pump make perfect sense.

We installed a recirculating pump to solve this problem (family members who are frequent visitors complained too much). It delivers hot water much faster but does cause hot water to “leak” into the cold water line which I don’t love in mid summer when I want a really cold shower.
