Hi Everyone, I am an RA here in the city. I have a question regarding the TR1 special inspections and I am getting conflicting information from a couple of different expeditors. We have a small kitchen/bath renovation in single family house, less than 3 stories high and a Type III construction classification (here in BK). I was previously told that I could still perform the firestopping inspection as-of-right without an SIA# because this is an R-3 occupancy and less than 3 stories high. A different expeditor is telling me that this is no longer the case. A link to the DOB site mentions this, which seems to support the former (link below): _A registered design professional with relevant experience may perform most Special Inspections in connection with the construction or alteration of Occupancy Group R-3 buildings, three stories or less in height. Additional qualifications are needed to perform Special Inspections in connection with excavation and foundation activities._ http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/development/special_insp_overview.shtml This would also seem to correspond with me selecting the 2nd paragraph on page 3 of the TR1, link below: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/downloads/pdf/tr1_newcode.pdf Any insight by someone with direct experience on this issue would be greatly appreciated! I’m just trying to confirm if I have been misinformed or not so I do not waste any more time. Thanks everyone!

You are looking at the old TR1\. Here’s the link to the new: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/downloads/pdf/tr1_2014.pdf. The new TR1 does not contain language pertaining to small buildings. Too bad for us but that exemption no longer exists.
