Secure locks for the front gate

Arkadys solution is going to be by far your best one. Instead of trying a few I would recommend getting a double cylinder lock. There great for securing your home. Thanks Stanley www.24hourboiselocksmith.com

We have a wrought iron gate leading to a vestibule in front of on our brownstone, and we realized that someone could reach through the bars to open the lock. What solutions have people come up with for this that are not too unsightly (we could mesh it over but afraid that would look a bit prison-like). Thanks!

Almost everyone I know uses a double cylinder lock for gates and doors with large glass panes. These aren’t allowed in NYC and could be dangerous, but not so much IF everyone in the house knows where they’re hung (well out of reach and sight of anyone looking at the gate or door from outside).

Have an iron person weld an iron box around the inside of the gate lock that you can fit your hand into from the inside to open and lock the gate, but when the doors are closed no can reach their hand around and inside the box to turn the lock from the outside. I hope this is clear.

That happened to me many years ago. I don’t know the proper terms but my solution is a double cylinder lock that uses the same key inside & out but that also has a twist knob that ‘locks’ automatically when you close the door (but which can be deactivated w/ a small push button on the latch.) You use the key to move the deadbolt while the automatic lock is not as strong but is a deterrent. The important part is that there are no knobs that stick out to allow a burglar to turn any of the mechanism. It was installed by 5th Av. Locksmith.
