Replaceing a tree

Bradford Pears grow fast and have pretty flowers. The problem is their weak limbs. Have spent small fortune stabilizing the limbs.

There is a Bradford Pear tree in the tree pit area of the sidewalk in front of our house. The tree is not damaged or anything but neither we nor our neighbors are too keen on a Bradford Pear; hence, we would like to change the tree. Does anyone know what is the quickest way of removing this tree and replacing it with something else…if that is possible at all. Given that the NYC Parks might not do this unless the tree is damaged, we will be happy to pay for the services. I am just not sure if NYC Parks will even allows us to remove a healthy tree. Anyone had to go through this process? Thank you in advance.

I don’t know anything about replacing a tree (sorry!) but I am curious about why you want to replace the Bradford Pear? We’re considering what trees to plant next year and that one was on the list of city-approved trees, so it came up in our research.
