We’ve recently rebuilt our stoop and now our old iron railings don’t fit. Two questions. 1\. Any recommendations for reasonable, quality, sane iron railing vendor? (Lopopolo? Piccolo? Others?) (I included “sane” in our criteria because we used Vinnie’s on Bergen Street for a front gate and railing about eight years ago and I am not going through that bit of madness again, though he did do pretty good work). 2\. Is there a market for the old railings? What can I reasonably expect to get for them and from whom?

I had no issues with Vinnie’s. Fast, efficient and good work. Will never be the cheapest though. Iron out your difficulties with them

Many people love Vinnie’s but I gotta say he’s very difficult to communicate with. His guys completely mismeasured for our parlor level rear window gates and then I had to spend weeks visiting his office to get him to fix the errors. Never again.

They are iron, the usual black paint, pretty thick with layers of paint (and rust of course) straight for a small landing at the top, then declining about 7-8 steps. I’d have to measure but I think the height at the top may be more like 30-32″ rather than 36″. A few scrolls and a twisted bar every 2 or 3 bars (I don’t recall exactly and I am at work).
