My house is built in 1925 and the original brick work in the front façade is missing about 0.5-1 inch of mortar and appears to have lost its fire-skin. To be clear, it is not faux brick siding but actual brick. Typically I would think that this is due to age, weather, and general deterioration over time. However, the entire front façade is very uniform in terms of how much mortar is missing and how much fire-skin has cracked. Additionally, 9 other houses which are in my row have the exact same brick front design. That being said, I wonder if this is simply the style of the brick work and not the sign of deterioration brick work. Has anyone seen this before (please see attached pictures).

This is most likely the original brick and mortar. Based on the photos it appears to be in good condition. This is a fairly common style of masonry for an early 20th century house.

There’re a lot of houses in DC that are that way. I’m sure it’s in fine shape.

Thanks for the feedback. I am hoping that is the case. Otherwise, it would be rather odd for all my neighboring row houses to have the identical missing mortar / cracked fire-skin and for all of theur owners to decide not to address it. I’ve tried asking a few of my neighbors about this and they do not seem too concern, but also didn’t have any info on why the brick is the way it is. I’ve only own the house for about a year so don’t have the history as well.
