I don’t have any great recommendations of companies. The one we used was awful and didn’t do what they said they were doing (I gather that we are prohibited from posting the names of bad service providers here). Whoever you go with, ask lots of questions, especially what they are using to treat your house. Then read about those chemicals online and, finally, supervise them carefully. You want to make sure that you check that the bottles are sealed, that they dilute them in the proper proportions (not watered down) and that they spray where they say they will spray and with sufficient quantity. I know it stinks to have to supervise someone so closely and with such a lack of trust, but you don’t want to learn the hard way that they were busy spraying plain water on your joists.

and something else I remember which is why I did not want to tell her to go with my guy: his price was almost half of the other companies. in my experience, if a price is that much lower, something may be wrong and it is best to pay more. Steve

well they both come wrapped in one package. I cannot remember what we paid when we bought this small house in Middle Village (a good bit smaller than a brownstone). I do seem to recall that my landlord in another small house we rented in called an inspector I sent her and he wanted something like $500.00\. but I did not want to tell them to go with them because even though I liked the inspector – I was not sure of what she was paying for, ie, the insurance policy. So I told her get another inspect – one of the big companies (terminex??) which she did. they wanted 900 and she went with them. all of this occurred about 15 years ago, so I cannot even recall the name of the inspector I sent her and I am sure prices are higher now. someone else will come on here with better details than I have and numbers better suited to a brooklyn home. I think what you are looking for with a termite inspector is not so much the inspection but the insurance policy behind it. that is what you are paying for; the insurance. so even if the inspector screwed up, the policy is still there to cover the damage and if he did screw up – that is between him and the insurance co as it seems to me that he is their agent and he is the one signing on the line as to what he saw. that is my take. I may be wrong. Steve
