Home stager costs

I staged mine by moving out all of my stuff except the portion of my furniture I needed to stage it sparsely and nicely. If you have nice furniture, it can be well worth it to stage it yourself with your own stuff. Moving the furniture I left behind later in a second move (long-distance) cost me about exactly what a stager would have charged, but it was staged far better with my own nice stuff than any stager would have done. And I got to stay in my nicely staged place, in my own bed, when I went back on weekends until it closed.

Good morning all. I am thinking about hiring a home stager for my coop sale. Our apartment is almost 1100 square feet on two levels. I’m not sure if we will be living here or not when we sell. We hope to be out. So, how much did your stager cost? Was it worth it? Thanks, Sarah

I think it is useful and pays out to have some professional help. If you are not living in the apartment at the time of staging it makes it so much easier to achieve the look of light, airy and artificially orderly minimalism that captures the eye of buyers. When I did it (still living in the apartment with 2 kids and a dog) we had to learn to live with almost 50% of our possessions in storage, and trying not to disturb the stage too much. It was a real pain. To get a stager to give you a good list of tips and a list of some basic furnishings to purchase should cost around $1000\. But to have them execute the plan, hire and manage contractors, rent out their furnishings to you and/or purchase new ones on your behalf, etc. that gets very expensive.

We did exactly the same (sans dogs) We hired a stager that was recommended by our broker for a consult (about $250), but implemented everything ourselves. We put half of our stuff in storage, which in retrospect, was great.. because it frontloads the packing for the actual move, and also its kind of a neat thing to know you can live with a lot less. Given that the market is hot, if you do this right, you probably won’t have to live in “staged” mode for too long.

Someone did it in my building. The broker staged it online only. It sold rather quickly anyway. There was no stress or money involved making the place look good. The buyer was able to see the possibilities on line.
