Heating system accessment - manhattan

I’m looking for expect Heating company for an accessment.I own a 4 story townhouse. Lived here for 10 years . Spent lots of money on insulation, furnace upgrade and TRVs but still not getting satisfactory heat in winter. A contractor recommended installing TRVs on each radiator to control the heat in each room. The trv were installed inside the radiators with a metal line to s small box about 12″ away which reads the room temperature. He also installed an out side sensor to read exterior temperature which is to turn the furnace off and on. Even with all this equipment we find the TRVs do not react to temperate changes automatically . When it’s warm out side they must be manually turned down to stop heat flow. When temp goes down we then have to turn the all up. Also in rooms where there are 2 radiators each with there own TRVs installed only the right radiator valve controls both radiators. The valve on left radiator does nothing. Any recommendations r greatly appreciated

TRVs for one pipe steam system must be a part of heating system upgrade and must be implemented together with boiler upgrade, venting and control upgrade. When done properly TRVs are doing marvelous job in providing comfort and fuel savings. I know it for a fact.

My impression is that TRVs can be a waste of time in a townhouse. For one thing, never have a TRV in the same room as the house thermostat because they will compete to control the boiler. Also, in a bathroom they are worse than useless because the sudden temperature increase when someone is showering will cut off the TRV just when you need heat to prevent condensation. I’ve always heard the technology of TRVs is pretty crude. Maybe your money would be better spent removing them in all but the rooms you rarely use and having an experienced plumber thoroughly balance your system? I have never met or hired Master Plumber but he has been posting here for years and clearly has many happy clients.

I do complete heating system evaluations and written reports: www.72fLLc.com TRVs are only as good as the person installing them. They’re affected by everything: draft, the heat coming off the radiator they serve, the pressure of the heating system, etc.
