Filing for reconfiguring electrical service

Thanks for the responses. Just to clarify. The electrician is filing with DOB for the wiring and that is included in his scope of work. The issue that we have is with Con Ed and that is what the electrician says is out of his scope.

We have a three story building that was previously lower duplex and now is an upper duplex. We have put in all new electrical wiring. Con Ed still still has the accounts listed as Garden/Parlor and 3rd floor. Our electrician says that the service has to be filed to reflect the changes but this was not part of his scope of work. Does anyone know how this service change filed? Thanks.

To “file” generally means pulling a permit to do the work ahead of time. It seems that your electrician is claiming that you did not request him to file the job, which definitely would have cost more; it always does.. But that is neither here nor there with Con Ed anyway, because even if you had filed trying to get Con Ed to change their records in their computer system is like praying for snow in July in NYC. even when your electrician does send all the permits etc and gets the sign off from Con Ed as well, 9/10 it will not happen. You just have to bare this in mind each time you have a change of tenants, let them know that it is marked with Con Ed as one thing , but is probably better identified by the prior tents name or the meter number… some buildings Con Ed & National Grid just will never get straight , you just have to go along with it.

We had the same situation and eventually gave up. We provide the tenants with the meter number and they set up the account that way. Dealing with Con Ed is like being transported to an alternate reality where nothing makes sense.
