Best hotels in Brooklyn?

OK, OK, I know this is a bit off topic, but where else but Brownstoner can I find a such community of picky and detail-oriented folks? I’m looking for the best hotels for out-of-town guests in the downtown/Carroll Gardens/Park Slope/Gowanus/Fort Greene areas. What would you say are the best choices? I’m having trouble finding a place that isn’t in a halfway-decent location, or a half-way decent value. B&Bs also accepted.

when looking for similar, I decided there were no deecent value hotels around here in brooklyn…the lower priced ones had scary reviews, no value for the price.  I decided that for three hundred dolllar manhattan prices, people would be better off in a manhattan hotel that was nicer.  B and Bs provide value, but the nicer ones are not budget, and tend to book up early.  I found the best value to be Park slopers renting out their small apartments while away on craigslist.  Many there are on air B and B, but I found people who would rent directly.  Now I have to check out Nu and the seaport Best western.  Other suggestions welcome…it is sometimes a dilemma.

I second Kachuri999’s recommendation of the NU Hotel on Atlantic Ave.  My parents have stayed there when we were doing renovations and it was very nice. They will give you a 10% neighborhood discount too. Juts be sure to mention it when you reserve!

Alright, every time I go by this place I am curious, but it was only now that your question prompted me to try to look the place up.  It’s a bed and breakfast in Bed Stuy, a little east of the areas you mention.   Might be worth checking out; the interior photos look as gorgeous as the exterior does.   www.akwaaba.om/akwaaba-mansion/   In case that link doesn’t come through, try googling akwaaba bed & breakfast on macdonough street.

Did you think about using a bed and breakfast establishment? There are bed and breakfast accomadations in Park Slope and other areas of Brooklyn. I’m sure people on this site can give you a recommendation.

I’ve had a lot of relatives stay at the NU Hotel. They’re well-located and the rooms can be very nice. Be sure to ask for a room that faces State (not Atlantic).

while not in Brooklyn (but with great bridge and Brooklyn views) The Best Western @ the South Street Seaport is a great location, there are some rooms with great terraces (I rented one as a gift for newlywed friends coming back to town to visit and the terrace went around a corner of the building and the view was spectacular). Plus on the weekends the seaport has a great greenmarket with local vendors and it’s nice to walk around and close to subways to get into Brooklyn!
