Antique Wooden Doors and Moldings from Park Slope Brownstone for Sale

We are selling our original brownstone woodwork. There are four swinging doors and two pocket doors. The trim “molding” you can see around the pocket doors is on the back side as well. In the middle of the wall with the swinging doors you see a four-piece marble “bar” below the mirror. There is another doorway, which is not shown, that has the same trim as the two in the photo, and there are two more doors- each is half wood, with four panes of glass. I would be happy to have someone come by to take a closer look. Thanks, Jeff

Hello! Yes, all of the doors and moldings are still available. I was hoping to sell them all together, but I would be willing to break up the set. The pocket doors are the most valuable, and I have the moldings for both sides of the opening (inside and out). I am asking $2000 for the pair of doors and all the original moldings around them. Each door is 30″ wide and 84″ tall. The moldings peak at 96″. Thanks so much for your interest.

You’re right–even we don’t do EVERYTHING they did; we removed the flour bins and sifters from our two oak Hoosers (and those cabinets, dating as they do from the teens, or early ’20s, are considerably more modern than our house. 🙂

Oh come now, this is ridiculous. My house originally had a kitchen that was 80 sq ft, walled off from a dining room next door which had wood wainscotting. Surprise, surprise, we don’t need a dumb waiter shaft and we don’t have a servant and we don’t have a woman who cooks in a tiny room and presents the eagerly waiting family with a meal in the next room. So we made a cutout, opening up the kitchen. Turned the dumbwaiter shaft into the fridge space, removing (and saving) the 100 yr old oak door. If we had wainscotting, which we did not, we would have had to remove some of it. The horror! Guess what, the kitchen no longer has a coal burning water heater and 2 sq ft of counterspace on a Hoosier cabinet with flour and sugar crocks, either. The original Edwardian owners of the house also slept in windowless bedrooms and had heat by gravity-assist hot air, fired by a coal boiler. We don’t have to do everything they do!

I appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm, but making generalizations is rarely useful. I feel strongly about original details as well, but there are many factors that weigh every decision. I never understand why people buy a house with lovely original detail, then strip it out. This one looks like it was never painted or abused. You probably paid a premium because of that fact, so now you want to devalue it to make it look like a mid teens modern box that will never be a classic. Ten, fifteen years from now it will look as bad as a bright red bathroom tile from the 1990’s, except changing a bathroom is not as disastrous as changing the original wood work, that can never be rebuilt. Ask any decent carpenter… the wood is not even available. You cannot duplicate original detail, it will always look like reproduction. If you do not like Antique, do not buy an antique….. please!

yeah sure, the open lofty modernized exposed brick and recessed lights trend is here to stay. like bob said, good looking out for the future. i’ve never seen a modernized brownstone renovation look good a few years later. original detail is timeless.

Sad, but still better than dumping it. Personally, I consider an old house to be something we hold in trust for future generations, a concept foreign to those who see a house as an investment, rather than a home.

I agree with “no-permits” about the destruction; future generations will, I’m sure, shake their heads at this vandalism, BUT at least the OP is selling this beautiful woodwork, instead of smashing it and putting it in a dumpster.
