antennae / cable TV issues (or rather, no-cable TV)
Bedstuyreno, I tried that antennae you recommended but we only got two channels – both Spanish-speaking – and my husband and I both don’t speak Spanish. But man did those channels come in beautifully! Not quite sure if I’m just doing something wrong here. I will probably try J&R then. Hate the idea of running cables throughout the place since we went through the effort to conceal all the internet, HDMI cables in the walls already. Thanks everyone.

We have a flatscreen LG TV, purchased around 2012\. We had a cheap digital antennae that worked great in our Park Slope apartment. Now we’re on the 1st floor in Bay Ridge and unable to get ANY channels with the same antennae and TV. I know there are several towers or whatever in Manhattan, less than 7 miles away. This antennae should reach up to 25 miles. The TV is about 25 feet from a north facing window, but otherwise, there aren’t tons of walls or large buildings around us. Anyone have suggestions on what to do? is it an antennae issue, in which case, do you have any recommendations? I don’t want to spend more than $100 on an antennae, especially since our old one was $7 and worked like a charm in PS. I assume mounting an antennae on the roof would mean a cable would need to be run from the antennae and into the TV, in which case, how do you run the cable inside without it being an eyesore?

Here’s the FCC chart on what you’d need an antenna to do. http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/dtvmaps/ If you have high-speed internet you could buy a Roku. Lots of free programs & even more if you have Amazon Prime.

J&R TV at 180 7th Ave in the Slope (718-638-3040) can sell you the correct antenna and recommend a guy to do the installation. Ask for Ralph. Our antenna is on the roof and yes, the cable is an eyesore but there ya go.

I had the same issue and thought I needed a roof antenna. Tried this one from Amazon and it worked great! You can select the different mile range. Might be worth a try before investing in a roof antenna http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Ultra-Thin-Indoor-HDTV-Antenna/dp/B00DIFIO8E/ref=pd_sim_23_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1RH5V2VS0XKFWAHN7GBQ

if you have existing cable from TWC, you can get an antenna from radio shack or lowes, find out where it enters the bldg and hook it up to that cable. You do not need an HD antenna. I am using a 25 year old radio shack antenna and get a rock solid pix.Just find good place to mount the antenna and point it at the Empire State. That is where the transmitters are until they fire up 1 World Trade.
