Hi All,

Before the weather warms up, I want to get an energy audit for our house so we can do some insulation improvements before the beginning of the next heating season. NYSERDA offers a reduced cost assessment but you must choose from their long list of Kings Co. approved contractors to perform the work. See the link below.

I don’t recognize any of these outfits. Has anyone else done this and do you have a recommendation of who’s good on this list?

Thanks.

  1. CUNY is offering a free home audit that covers more than the Keyspan program (in terms of what they can offer afterwards), & trains a CUNY student while you get a full audit from a professional. They referred me to Tony Collichino (sp?), who has been far more useful than the NYSERDA-referred company from LI that I paid to do it 2 years ago who basically just wanted to sell me their insulation product. Wish I had the number for you, but you could try calling the CUNY Center for Sustainable Energy.

  2. Not sure if the program is still active, but I got an energy audit through Keyspan about 5 years ago at no charge. It seemed like a pretty thorough assessment with a written report provided to the homeowner. Might be worth checking with Keyspan before going the NYSERDA route.
