Hi,

I currently own a condo in Park Slope (7th street between 5th and 6th). I am considering moving to a bigger condo in Greenwood Heights ( 20-22 st between 5th and 6th).

Can someone tell me what the neighborhood is like? Is it a big change from Park Slope? Or is it just a longer walk to everything?

Thanks!

  1. I would say it makse sense to call my hood fringe, because it is definitely the developing fringe of the brooklyn neighborhood directly next to it, in terms of emerging services, people restoring houses, people from brownstone brooklyn looking there for a directly adjacent bargain, etc…It’s essentially the fringe of Park Slope. It’s existence allows south slopers to feel secure that their neighborhood is no longer on the geographic fringe.

I don’t think many would consider Ditmas/Victorian Flatbush fringe at any price. It’s just different proposition than brownstone-type brooklyn, and already firmly established in it’s own way for many, many years.

  2. Architerrorist-

There’s no elevated line in greenwood/south slope. Are you talking about the gowanus expressway which runs on 2nd/3rd Ave? That’s not really any closer to greenwood than the hamilton avenue bridge is to the slope.

Are you talking about the D train that run out by boro park and beyond? That’s way on the other side of the cemetery.

  3. “Can somebody please define for me what a fringe neighborhood is, because I can’t imagine it means what I think it means. Thank you.”

yeah – that term gets thrown around a lot and i’m not sure exactly what it means either. i always thought it meant a neighborhood that is close to a “prime” nabe, so it’s starting to get some spillover – but still isn’t quite “there” yet.

  4. Sorry, not the BQE, The El. And yes, I’ve known people there who have had to hose off their patio furniture daily during the summer due to the filth that floats down. Have also heard this from people who have looked in DUMBO.
