Deck Stairs from Parlor Floor

I am in the process of planning a deck from my parlor floor with steps down to the garden. Does anyone have a recommendation for the stairs? (Code or otherwise) I am considering straight or spiral and basically need to keep the project as low cost as possible. The stairs are going to come off of an existing fire escape platform. It’s at 12′. Thanks.
If you go spiral, get it as a kit. Well recommended guy who did mine from scratch didn’t know s*&t about angles and couldn’t compute where it would land; I had to help and he still didn’t get it right. It may be cheaper to get a kit also.
You can buy pre-maunf. spiral stairs, so that might make it less expensive.
