I’m trying to find a reputable TV repair place near Bay Ridge, but finding it hard to sort out the shady places from the reliable. Everything on Yelp, Citysearch, etc seems to be rated around 1 – 2.5 stars and I’ve had a few of those places turn me down because Bay Ridge is too far for in home service.

I’ve got a 42″ LCD TV in dire need of repairs before the extended warranty expires in two weeks. Any recommendations?

  1. Try posting something on http://www.bayridgetalk.com. There are alot of old time bay ridgers on that sight that have directed me to watch repair, dry cleaners, etc. (I’m assuming you’re new to the nabe.)

    Good luck with your search.

  2. I just called again; the standards are that it be a ‘reputable’ repair shop. I asked for clarification on what exactly made them ‘reputable’ and was told that they should provide an itemized estimate on official company letterhead. There’s no requirement that they be an official (authorized by the manufacturer) service provider.

  3. Apparently not… I think it’s a lot like how they deal with credit card fraud; their profits dwarf whatever amount does happen, so they just eat the cost because it would cost them more to deal with it.

    From the Warranty Claim Form:
    – Itemized repair estimate from a service provider such as the manufacturer, retailer, or repair shop

  4. It’s an extended warranty through MasterCard; they extend the original manufacturers warranty for up to a year, but they don’t seem to care where I get the TV serviced. I double checked on this because I was worried that it had to be a specific service center, but they don’t seem to care.

  5. This is warranty work? If you want the warranty to be honored you should contact the manufacturer, point of purchase, or whoever administers the warranty (would be on the warranty card) and find out from them where to take it.

Odds are the run of the mill tv repair shop is not going to honor your warranty and whoever holds the warranty will not approve a random shop to do the work.

Call the store you bought it at or the number on the warranty card and they’ll tell you where to take it to ensure the work is done according to the warranty and you don’t void what you have left.
