We finally decided to pull the plug and disconnected the IO TV last month. It seemed pretty simple, called the disconnect department and then I returned the cable tv box to their store the next day.
Two weeks later to my surprised I still see the IO TV service in my account. I called their billing dept and they said a tech has to stop by to do something in my backyard. Alright, simple enough. The service appt was for 3/2/11 and we were home. We did not hear the door bell or receive any phone. A couple of days later I called and the customer service lady said the tech could not gain access since its private property. I asked why did the tech bother ringing the door or calling. She had no respond. Another service appt set for 3/14. I told the cust. service rep to note to ring the door. Today, we were home again and nothing..no phone call or door bell. I just got off the phone with Cablevision and the tech put the same note: Private Property no access.

I feel like I’m being held ransom. I’m still being charged the $70 for the IO TV even though I returned the box. I’m doing my part waiting for the tech and still nothing. Anyone dealt with something similar or know how I can get this resolved. It is beyond upsetting.

  1. **UPDATE**

I received a call from Cablevision yesterday morning to confirm the service appt for the following afternoon. I was surprised since I got no such call the past 2 times. After a couple of status update calls from her, she told me the tech had an emergency and will not be able to arrive at the schedule time window. I was happy to wait since I just wanted this taken care of. The tech finally arrived 1.5 hours late and was pleasant to deal with. He disconnected the cable and get this, the post was NOT even in my backyard. It was in my neighbors!!! After 20 minutes he was done. I called Cablevision later that evening to confirm that the TV service have been removed and also to get credit in my account for the tech arriving late. Apparently the city signed a new contract with Cablevision/Time Warner in which if they are late with the service appt, you can get a credit in your account. I just found this out.

  2. Unfortunately for me, I still have to use their internet service. There are no other high speed internet provider in my area (Verizon DSL does not count). I did return the cable TV box on 2/24/11 and received a receipt for the return.

Again I have another service (3rd)appt on 3/21, if its not resolved then I will be taking all the advice above.

  3. I would have suggested that you do a credit card chargeback if they decided to charge your credit card, but don’t know how it would work seeing that you willingly paid the bill. You can also stop service by taking the boxes to the walk-in center rather than waiting for the tech to show. Cablevision will hold you hostage if you let them. I once got into a argument with a phone rep. after asking him seven times to terminate my service and each time he tried to tell me how cablevision was the best. After the sixth time of saying cancel my service i started to yell and he still didn’t get the point. Anyways, take the boxes into the walk in center. Good luck.

  4. I won’t comment on your legal remedies, but rather the guts of the hookup.

Once you call the disconnect department and return their equipment, your resposnibility is over. There is a disconnection on the pole (or wire) but that is their problem, to be performed at their convenience, or, more likely, left that way.

The inference that you are continuing to utilize their services is hogwash. You should have been given a receipt from the cable company when you handed back to them their equipment. I know Comcast in NJ always gives that receipt out.

  5. namahs, let this be a lesson to you…why would you ever pay a bill after you specified service disconnect? There are many service providers who make it hard to stop service, but you don’t have to cater to them, it’s fraud.

If you paid by credit card, enter a dispute claim.

  6. Agree with above about the Public Service Commission. Also, the service person should be placing a note on your door saying he was there as proof. You should call the cable provider and tell them you were not left any notice and you are certain it is because the serviceman did not show up.
