I have a renovation starting, I won’t be living there during renovation. What do people do to secure the site. It was suggested that I see if there is someone on the block who I can pay to keep an eye on the property. Or is it just good enough to secure the property.

  1. Getting friendly with your neighbors always helps. Having a GC that doesn’t leave all his tools on site also helps.

We never had an issue with break ins during our gut reno (we weren’t living there either), except when one of the subs COULD NOT GET IN AND KICKED THE DOOR IN (sorry, still upset about that logic).

Also, stopping by the house very day is in order, which you should do anyways to make sure things are going as planned with the GC and subs.

Ultimately at the end of the job, change out all lock-sets and deadbolts to make sure you don’t have any “visitors.”
