158-15 Union Turnpike-rendering

Queens Courier reports that Community Board Eight narrowly approved a rezoning to allow for a four-story residential and commercial development along Union Turnpike. The parcel in question is vacant land near Parsons Boulevard, once part of St. Joseph’s Hospital. The developer wants to build three floors of residential units, ground floor commercial space and 80 underground parking spots. The current zoning allows for a 10-story community facility building shaped like a pyramid, although its height would be capped at 35 feet if the developer included residential units. The new zoning proposal allows for a residential building as tall as 40 feet. Now that CB8 has voted, the proposal goes to Borough President Helen Marshall, then City Planning, then City Council. Marshall has not yet issued her decision on the rezoning.
