391 14th Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues, is situated in the proposed expansion of the Park Slope historic district. Once a pretty regular-looking two-family home, the existing building was demolished in the spring of 2008 and now, reports IMBY, the site (along with already-approved plans to construct a five-story, five-unit building) has recently sold for $950,000.

  1. For context, the site is actually across the street (in the shadow of) the Armory Sports Complex, as well as two other recent 5 story apartment buildings. If they keep the approved plans shown this building looks to be the best of the three.

Not 100% sure, but I think the next door neighbor’s property is somehow be used for zoning calculations…Maybe air rights?

14th Street, by the way, is much nicer than 15th which is being left out of the new historic district.

  2. “Once a pretty regular-looking two-family home, the existing building was demolished in the spring of 2008”

I would advise all to click on IMBY’s article and see what this “regular looking” home actually looked like. Yes, clearly that home was worthy of preservation.

Also, this is *horrible* urban planning. A two family home, located one block away from the subway, is knocked down to make way for what looks to be a 4 or 5 family twonhouse-type structure. Egads!! This is the end of Park Slope as we know it (sarcasm alert).
