New Development: 195 Humboldt Street
At 195 Humboldt Street, the signature mix of glass, metal and mezzanines screams “Scarano” and, sure ‘nuf, it is. This East Williamsburg development is relatively small, weighing in at four stories and about 14,500 square feet. This East Williamsburg development is relatively small, weighing in at four stories and about 14,500 square feet. Given the ceiling heights you can bet there are some sizeable sleeping lofts at the rear of these apartments. As far as we can tell, there have been no Stop Work Orders or other buildings violations to date, so maybe the relative remoteness of this one has allowed it to elude detection. Or maybe the mezzanines are actually on the up-and-up. On a related note, the photog who posted this shot on Flickr notes that it is next door to a youth hostel, but our cursory Google search yielded no info. What’s the deal?

i dunno, doesn’t look all that bad to me.
I agree with Wanker. Some of you are insane with your window complaints. How can you complain that buildings have too many windows? You want to live inside a dark box with one little square of light? Give me a break. Lots of windows is a good thing. Find a more important issue to complain about, like homelessness or the war.
The entire block is very rundown. That building is a 1000% improvement for the area. That said, I have no idea who will pay that money to live there.
what the hell is wrong with you people? what would you build? you want LESS windows? you can’t rebuild historic brownstones. that’s as in PERIOD.
WAIT! Isn’t this 23rd St in GWH?
Gee, another “beam me up Scotty” from Bob’s Benetton crew.
Perhaps an endorsement deal with Windex is in order?
Puke!
See it here on aptsandlofts.com website:

It’s the 6th one down. I do believe that it was marketed by the developers group, but the copy states that it is now the exclusive of aptsandlofts.com.
Relative to what? 14,500 square feet is a pretty good size in my book. That is the same as 3 good sized brownstones, which on this site I would think would be the baseline.
i wonder if the new owners are required to sign a no curtain rider attached to the contract?
SCARANO = EVIL. big yaaaawwwwnnnn…
seriously, get over that, it’s soooo 2006.
