TAB-031110-exit-web.jpgMore on Third & Bond’s marketing strategy from the bloggers at The Hudson Companies…Fan us on Facebook! Follow us on Twitter! Read our blog on Brownstoner! Contact us at www.thirdandbond.com! My, my how technology is impacting the way we do business. A lot has been made about social media and the wildfire of (free) outreach it blazes. This week we wanted to talk about our foray into social media.

This blog was our first stop on the social media train which we boarded in 2007. Brownstoner was and is the foremost blog about real estate in Brooklyn or so we postulate. For us, blogging about Third + Bond meant the opportunity to get (free) market feedback via the comments and to expose readers to what it’s really like to develop a project. Writing the blog every week is a lot of work but it also has resulted in much wider visibility for the project than we would have gotten otherwise through the period of construction.

Although Facebook and Twitter have been around for about as long as the blog, they weren’t as obvious to us as ways to reach our target audience. Even last autumn when setting up our on-line advertising, social media took a backseat. We just weren’t convinced that trying to sell a condo via social media made sense. It’s one thing for there to be a group for those who think In-N-Out Burger is Freakin’ Delicious or for the Yankees to request that users fan them. It even made sense to us that a major brand like Coca-Cola might want another way to saturate the hearts and minds of their consumers. But when we noticed that even the Wall Street Journal has a Facebook page and local rental brokers are tweeting listings, we came to the conclusion that not being part of social media is almost like not being on the web at all. Plus, it’s free so there’s a limited downside if the experiment doesn’t gain us any new notice.

  1. remember way back when – when you posted on possible names for marketing and whether to feature this as Gowanus or Carrol Gardens.
Did I not say drop that Gowanus association nonsense right now?
Aren’t you glad you did , with all this superfund designation controversy? I know touchy subject at the moment.
